Gems & Metals Calibration Lab in Qatar – Opening Day

The first calibration lab for gems and metals in Qatar was inaugurated by Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani today on the side-lines of the 18th edition of the Doha Jewelry and Watches Exhibition (DJWE 2022)
The laboratory aims to calibrate minerals and precious stones, examine, and classify diamonds, and ensure their quality and purity.
The laboratory is equipped with the latest devices for examining diamonds and is manned by trained and high qualified technicians who are graduates of the International Gemological Institute.

The lab’s opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Khalifa Al Thani, CEO of Qatar Museums Ahmed Al Namla, and QC board member Mohamed Al-Obaidly, as well as founders of the lab Einas Mohamed and Ahmed Al-Obaidly.
Commenting on this event, Sheikh Khalifa stressed the importance of opening the laboratory, noting that it makes Qatar the first country in the Arab world in educating the public about the importance of diamond classification, and combating fraud in this important field.
On her part, Einas Mohamed said that they had the idea of establishing a laboratory for calibrating minerals and precious stones four to five years ago but faced many challenges until it became a reality through cooperation with the large international institutes specialized in this field.
